A New Way to Make Airports Better in BC

Kamloops Airport

Aviation is on the rise in British Columbia thanks to a new funding program aimed at improving airports.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is accepting grant applications for the British Columbia Air Access Program (BCAAP), an initiative designed to help airport operators improve their infrastructure and strengthen local and provincial economies.

During public consultation we discovered 70 per cent of you agree we should support regional and small community airports. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The annual funding given out through BCAAP will allow airports to make important upgrades such as:

  • Runway extensionsBC Airport
  • Terminal-building expansions
  • Better lighting
  • Navigational system enhancements

There are more than 300 airports of one kind or another (including heliports, for example) in the province. Improvements like these will allow airports to accommodate larger aircraft and more frequent flights.

We accept applications from public airport operators, including local governments and other operating authorities.  Our website explains the program and guides you through the application process.

Let us know if you have any questions.
