Little Fort and TranBC Hit a Home Run

The work begins

If you’re looking for a place with an incredible sense of community, Little Fort is a great example. Little Fort is an unincorporated area at the junction of Highways 5 and 24, about 30 kilometres south of Clearwater. We’ve developed an excellent working relationship with the folks there, particularly the local youth groups who go to great lengths to keep their neighbourhoods, and their roads, clean. It’s something they’ve been doing for a number of years now, and this year Argo Road Maintenance (Thompson) came up with an idea to say, “thank you”.

Volunteering their time, Argo and ministry staff teamed up with Little Fort community to renovate their old baseball field.

The turnout for this project was fantastic. Everyone from kindergarten kids to the elderly came out to lend a hand, making a massive job much easier. Trenches were dug and a new underground sprinkler system was installed. A large truck and trailer load of red clay was brought in for the baselines, pitcher’s mound and home plate. Then, to cap it all off, a semi truck load of turf was rolled out. It was a good thing there were so many volunteers, because there was a lot of digging and raking and a lot of turf to pack and put in place.

Volunteers even took the time to paint the playground, backstop and dugouts as well as trim and prune the plants around the field. It was hard work, but in just two-and-a-half days, their old ball field was dramatically transformed into a new park the whole town was proud of.

It’s another great example of what you can accomplish by working together. Thank you to all the volunteers from the ministry, Argo and the community who came out to make this happen!

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “if you build it, they will come.” Well, Little Fort switched it up a little: “they came to build it.” And they really hit this one out of the park.
